Abstract Expressionism : Taschen Basic (HB)

Abstract Expressionism : Taschen Basic (HB)

Inspired by the works of Arshile Gorky, Abstract Expressionism is defined as the non-representational use of paint as a means of personal expression.

Emerging in 1940s America, this new form of art was split into two very different sub-categories: action painting, which was exemplified by Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock, and colour field painting, demonstrated by Mark Rothko.

Abstract Expressionism introduces the movement which shifted the centre of the art world from Paris to New York and features works from 20 key Abstract Expressionist artists.
